Rhapsody of Rhythm: The Sound Journey of Costax

At the Nexus Lounge in Amsterdam, electronic music veteran Manny Van Dahl sat down with Costax, the London-based DJ and record producer whose driving rhythms and atmospheric melodies have earned him a loyal global following. The conversation offered an inside look at an artist deeply connected to both the culture and the craft of electronic music, revealing how environment, technology, and perseverance continue to shape his evolving sound.

From the moment he arrived in the city, Costax felt instantly energized. Amsterdam, he explained, has a way of bringing the entire music community together in one place, creating an atmosphere that feels both inspiring and familiar. Describing the city as “unique,” he highlighted its canals, architecture, and unmistakable character—elements that make it stand apart and continually draw artists back. Even longtime locals, he noted, recognize that there’s something singular about the city’s creative pulse.

The discussion soon turned to the evolution of DJing and production tools. Costax shared a pragmatic yet passionate view on technology, emphasizing that adaptation is essential. “You can’t escape technology,” he said, adding that the key is learning how to use it as a creative enhancer rather than a replacement for musical identity. For him, innovation works best when it amplifies originality, not when it overshadows it.

Costax also teased what’s ahead in his release schedule, hinting at a major forthcoming track on the Kadosh label that he described as one of the most important releases of his career. Alongside that, he confirmed a new release on his own imprint, Dioscuri Records, reinforcing his commitment to pushing fresh sounds while nurturing artistic independence.

A rapid-fire round brought out Costax’s playful side. Asked about influences outside electronic music, he immediately cited the Red Hot Chili Peppers, pointing to Californication as a formative album. Lighter moments followed—imagining remixing unusual sounds or enduring an elevator ride with one of his own tracks on repeat—revealing an artist who balances intensity with humor.

As the conversation wrapped up, Costax reflected on the importance of persistence. His advice was simple but powerful: never give up, and learn to celebrate even the smallest wins along the way. It’s a mindset forged in London’s club circuit and carried forward through his growing international presence and label work.  Listen to the full interview below.
