Sometimes the best collaborations happen naturally. For Mojave Grey and Swiss producer Black Circle, Heavenly wasn’t the result of a carefully planned studio session—it was the coming together of two artists who share a passion for emotional, cinematic electronic music.
Released through Armada Records, Heavenly pairs Mojave Grey’s signature blend of rock-inspired songwriting with Black Circle’s melodic house production, creating a track that feels equally at home during a festival sunset or a late-night drive. It’s an uplifting record built around soaring vocals, expansive melodies, and a sense of optimism that lingers long after the final note.
For Mojave Grey, made up of Zander Bleck and Michael Pozzi, the release represents another step in their mission to blur the lines between live rock instrumentation and electronic music. Inspired by the vast openness of the Mojave Desert, the duo has developed what they describe as “desert dance music”—a sound that’s cinematic, emotional, and deeply rooted in storytelling. Black Circle, meanwhile, brings years of experience crafting melodic house records supported by some of dance music’s biggest names, making the collaboration feel like a natural fit.
During their recent conversation with Nexus Radio, Bleck and Pozzi opened up about how Mojave Grey first came together. Ironically, it wasn’t in a studio at all.
The pair met while traveling to Dubai and ended up spending 17 hours on the same flight. Somewhere between takeoff and landing, conversations about music turned into ideas, and ideas turned into a partnership.
“We had a chance to bond and very quickly realized we had a lot of similar music influences,” Zander explained.
Those influences eventually evolved into Mojave Grey—a project built around combining live instrumentation, thoughtful songwriting, and electronic production without feeling confined by genre labels.
The desert itself plays an equally important role in shaping their music. Rather than simply inspiring the band’s name, the Mojave has become an extension of their creative process.
“The desert forces you into this meditative state,” Zander said, describing the quiet landscapes that often become the backdrop for writing sessions. Away from distractions, the environment allows ideas to develop naturally, giving their music a spacious quality that listeners can hear throughout Heavenly.
That atmosphere became the perfect foundation for working with Black Circle.
According to the duo, Black Circle initially developed the instrumental framework for the record before Mojave Grey added lyrics, live instrumentation, and vocals. The collaboration allowed each artist to lean into their strengths while creating something that felt cohesive rather than forced.
The finished song captures exactly what both artists do best. Black Circle’s polished melodic production provides momentum, while Mojave Grey adds an emotional depth that makes Heavenly feel as much like a song as it does a dance record.
For Michael Pozzi, that’s one of the defining characteristics of the project.
“It brings you closer to the audience,” he said. “There’s a human element to it that maybe some dance music doesn’t quite capture.”
That same philosophy extends beyond the studio and into their live performances.
Rather than relying exclusively on traditional clubs and concert venues, Mojave Grey has become known for performing in unconventional outdoor locations, particularly throughout the Mojave Desert. Those intimate performances create an atmosphere that feels less like a concert and more like a shared experience between the band and the audience.
Of course, live performances don’t always go exactly as planned.
One of the duo’s most memorable moments came when an unexpected stage crasher—who happened to be a well-known influencer—jumped into one of their performances, creating a spontaneous moment that quickly spread across social media. While unplanned, it perfectly reflected the unpredictable energy that has become part of Mojave Grey’s identity.
With Heavenly, Mojave Grey and Black Circle have created more than another melodic house release. They’ve crafted a record that combines electronic production with genuine songwriting, proving that dance music can be both emotionally engaging and festival-ready.
As Mojave Grey continues expanding its live presence across Europe—including performances in Barcelona, Ibiza, and the UK—the duo is steadily carving out its own lane within electronic music. And with Black Circle helping bring Heavenly to life, the collaboration feels like the beginning of something much bigger than a single release.
If Heavenly is any indication of where Mojave Grey is headed next, the horizon looks every bit as expansive as the desert that inspired them.
