Though the center of much controversy, Sia’s newly released video “Elastic Heart” is an elaborate and artistic display of emotion. The video stars talented 28 year old actor Shia LaBeouf, and 12 year old “Dance Mom’s” dancer, Maddie Ziegler. The two, dressed in dirty flesh toned leotards, communicate in an intricate, contemporary fight-dance while trapped in a huge zoo-like cage. Maddie’s unconventional dancing mixed with Shia’s pained, even anxious facial expressions make for a very moving and emotionally driven scene. It challenges the viewer to both think about the meaning behind it and feel the distress of what Sia is singing about.

The video sparked controversy when viewers claimed to see pedophilic references, alluding to the age difference of the actors and nude colored clothing.

Sia publically apologized when she tweeted, “I anticipated some ‘pedophelia!!!’ Cries for this video. All I can say is Maddie and Shia are two of the only actors I felt could play These two warring ‘sia’ self states. I apologize to those who feel triggered by ‪#ElasticHeart My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody.”
