Fast Boy Discuss Creative Process and Teaming Up with Tiësto “For All My Life”

Joining us at this year’s international music summit for an exclusive Nexus Radio interview, we spoke with Lucas and Felix – the two halves of the incredible Fast Boy – about their creative process and the influences that inspired it, how it feels to collaborate as brothers, and what it’s like to release a hit single with dance music legend Tiësto.

In February 2021, German brothers Lucas and Felix Hain started a brand new project they called Fast Boy. Having previously worked together under the name Oh Brother, the pair already had experience of the music industry but in the last few years they’ve found real success with this latest work.

They drew particular attention when they featured in “Bad Memories” with Meduza and James Carter, finding themselves #13 in the German charts.

As producers, songwriters, and singers, they’ve released fourteen singles in the last three years, working in collaboration with a handful of artists including Afrojack, Alok, Armin Van Buuren and, most recently, Tiësto.

“All My Life” (which hit #11 on the German charts) is a chilled out danced melody that’s perfect for those summer parties. It’s also an amazing showcase of the duo’s songwriting skill while adding that unique Tiësto flavour.

Here at Nexus, we were curious to know what it’s like to work with a musical icon like Tiësto and how that collaboration came about in the first place.

“I mean, Tiësto - he’s obviously the GOAT. It’s insane. To have a track with him was amazing! We wrote it with him in Berlin. It was the second song of the session, and we just had 35-40 minutes left and it was just this hail Mary hook.”

From there, they went back and forth in production with Tiësto so that they could nail the sound and so that Tiësto could add his signature elements. The end result was a track that’s been garnering a lot of love and will likely be finding its way onto many people’s summer playlists.

Discussing their creative approach to music, the pair highlighted just how much they’d been affected by the combination of their background with traditional instruments and their inspirations from the club/techno scene in Berlin. As brothers, they also talked about just how natural their collaboration can feel and how nice it is to work with someone you feel linked to.
