RetroVision: Burgers, Beats, and Brooklyn 99

NEXUS LOUNGE AMSTERDAM INTERVIEW

French DJ and producer RetroVision is no new kid on the block. With over two million monthly Spotify listeners, airtime with Sirius XM, and a collection of original and remixed tracks, he’s climbing his way to a household name in the EDM community — and doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon.

The remixer stopped by the BPM Supreme pop-up studio during Nexus Lounge Amsterdam to discuss his newest work, dream collaborations, and his Russian cat, of course.

Host Todd Michael began the interview with a light probing into RetroVision’s upcoming projects to see if the DJ could offer us a sneak peek into what he’s been working on.

“I’ve been working on a lot of tracks, a lot of new stuff. I can’t really talk about [it], because it’s going to be pretty busy and big next year. And I’ve got some other collaborations.”

“I’ve been working on a lot of tracks, a lot of new stuff. I can’t really talk about [it], because it’s going to be pretty busy and big next year. And I’ve got some other collaborations.”

Michael then transitioned into the famous Take Five questions, described as “random, fun, serious,” to test RetroVision on his quick-fire answering skills, starting with the musician’s TV habits.

“I watch a lot of Netflix shows, Amazon Prime as well. I’m actually watching Brooklyn 99 and The Good Place. I’m a lot into funny series at the moment, but I’ve [also] been watching a lot of superhero series, like Marvel. There are not a lot of Marvel series anymore on Netflix, so I’m watching more funny things right now with shorter episodes.”

The next question prompted a tough choice: know people’s thoughts or make food appear at will?

“Make food appear. Burgers and pizza.” RetroVision also offered a brief explanation: “I’d actually been working before I started making music, and when I started making music I was working at McDonald’s at the same time. I’d been working also in a pizza truck.

Michael continued the interview by asking for the weirdest behavior of RetroVision’s two dogs and one cat.

“Sometimes they just go crazy when you’re literally doing nothing, just watching TV, and one of them will just go crazy and want to have fun randomly.”

Lastly, Michael closed the interview with the infamously difficult question of the desert island, prompting RetroVision’s clarification: “Just friends, all DJs? Not my girlfriend?”
