It’s been a busy year for DJ NUZB—his music has taken him worldwide, from career-making sets in Tokyo to performances across Europe and his native South America. We sat down with the DJ at our Lee Jeans pop-up studio at Nexus Lounge Amsterdam to chat with him about his upcoming projects, his experience thus far at ADE and to play a quick game of our Nexus Take-5 series.

Known by the alias NUZB, Brazilian musician and producer Normalio Francisco has been making waves in the electronic music scene with his RetroFuture dance music, drawing inspiration from house and future bass genres. His eclectic style caught the attention of Martin Garrix’s label Stmpd Rcrds in 2020, leading to a significant breakthrough in his career.

NUZB’s debut EP on Stmpd Rcrds, titled “RetroFuture,” made a strong impact, with four out of five tracks landing on the Top 100 Future House (now Mainstage). His follow-up, “Miss Me”, was a collaboration with UK producer Malarkey that received support from industry legends like Martin Garrix, Tiësto, Don Diablo, Jay Hardway, and RetroVision. Since, he’s been busy playing the biggest dance stages in the world, including Tomorrowland Belgium and Ushuaia on Garrix’s Residency. Top of Form

It’s NUZB’s second time at ADE, and it’s clear that the DJ is elated to be here. “It’s amazing so far,” he tells us, “This city is amazing. Everytime I come here I feel grateful and happy. I love this environment”

But pleasure isn’t the only thing that’s brought NUZB to ADE—he’s also playing six shows while in Amsterdam, opening for Martin Garrix and using the opportunity to preview his latest project, “Say Less,” a RetroFuture banger released through Stmpd Rcrds in late October.

Before he heads out, NUZB joins us for a quick go at our Nexus Take-5 Series. He tell us that one of the most memorable moments he’s had during a performance was a recent gig in Tokyo:

"Tokyo was a really good experience; it was really different. I was opening the set with my track and I wasn't expecting anything crazy, and the people were literally singing the melody when the drop comes in. I was like Oh my God, I've never seen this in my life.' It was one of the best experiences I ever felt in a live performance."

NUZB tells us that if his dream dinner guests are Michael Jackson, Beyonce and Eminem, and that the weirdest food he enjoys is sushi and beer—a winning combo, if you ask us.
