We caught up with Cedric Gervais in the Hercules Space at the Nexus Lounge during Miami Music Week. The DJ chatted with us about his long history with the festival, staying healthy through the late nights, and his latest music projects.

Cedric Gervais is a Grammy Award-winning French DJ, producer, and actor, widely recognized for his chart-topping remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness.” Originally from Marseille, France, he moved to Miami at a young age and quickly made his mark in the electronic music scene. Over the years, Cedric has built an impressive career, collaborating with top names like David Guetta, and becoming a staple at major clubs and festivals around the world.

Fresh off the excitement of Miami Music Week, Cedric is riding high with his latest single, “Bad Girl,” set to drop during the festivities. In addition to this hot new track, he’s been busy collaborating with artists like Ujel, Peso Pluma, Alex Mills, and SICK INDIVIDUALS. He even teased an upcoming project with none other than David Guetta. Cedric is definitely keeping the momentum going with a string of new releases, and we’ve been loving all the new music coming from his direction.

During our chat, Cedric reflected on his first experiences at Miami Music Week, reminiscing about the early days when Carl Cox danced on bar tops in tiny clubs. He also shared how he keeps his mind and body sharp amidst a hectic schedule: with a cold plunge, grounding exercises, and regular gym sessions — even after late-night sets that stretch until sunrise!

Looking back at his early DJ days, Cedric recalled the challenges of spinning vinyl on Technics 1200s and lugging crates of records from gig to gig — a stark contrast to today’s streamlined USB and SD card setups. But even though the technological aspect of DJing has evolved, Cedric emphasized that real DJing is still about telling a story and making people dance, not just mixing tracks.

To wrap things up, we put Cedric through our signature Take 5 rapid-fire questions. He joked that if animals could talk, his Shih Tzu would definitely be the rudest, and revealed that he’d love to travel with Kurt Cobain just to pick his brain.

Reflecting on life lessons, Cedric stressed the importance of kindness, even when it’s not easy. As for dealing with criticism? Cedric said it best: “If people are talking about you, you’re doing something right.”
