DIMITRI VEGAS & LIKE MIKE ON TOPPING BILLBOARD

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, the Belgian duo, who hold the #1 spot on DJ Magazine’s annual Top 100 DJs poll, have plenty reason to celebrate. Their song “Higher Place” featuring American singer Ne-Yo, topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart in its January 16, 20016 issue.

Remixes from Afrojack, Bassjackers, Dante Klein and Andrew Rayel, among others, assisted fuelling the song’s ascent to the top of the chart. While this is not the first leader for the featured vocalist Ne-Yo (this is his fourth), it is the first leader on the chart for Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.

Discussing the feat with Billboard, Dimitri reminisced how the song came about, and his feeling how it felt to have their first Billboard Dance Club Songs NO. 1. Below are a few excerpts from the discussion:

How did the song come about?
We had a demo that Mike recorded by the pool in Ibiza with a hangover last summer. When we were chillin’ with Ne-Yo in the studio last February, he heard the track and immediately wanted to do his magic on it. It’s a combination of complementary sounds and vocal stylings.

How does it feel to have your first Billboard Dance Club Songs No. 1 with your first charted song?
Amazing. Getting a Billboard No. 1 is something we always dreamed of. It comes within six months of being named No. 1 on DJ Mag, so, life is moving in a great direction. It’s an incredible way to start off 2016.

If the duo’s 2015 feats is anything to go by, they surely have many ‘Higher Places’ to reach during the new year 2016.
