Heidi Klum Takes a Break From Runways and Sashays Into the Music Scene With “Sunglasses at Night”

Heidi Klum has strutted down numerous career catwalks, showcasing her versatility as a supermodel, entrepreneur, trendsetter, and the brains behind hit shows like “Germany’s Next Topmodel,” “Project Runway,” and “America’s Got Talent.” She’s been the reigning queen of the fashion, beauty, and tech scenes, leaving her stylish footprint for an eternity.

However, one lesser-known path Heidi Klum has traveled was the music industry. Unbeknownst to many, “Germany’s Next Top Model” fans were treated to Heidi Klum’s melodic side during the 2022 show finale. Teaming up with her husband, Tom Kaulitz, they performed their track “Chai Tea with Heidi,” a collaboration with the rap legend Snoop Dogg. This wasn’t Heidi’s first musical venture. In 2006, she made her musical debut with the release of “Wonderland,” a Christmas single crafted for a Douglas advertisement. All the proceeds went to a children’s charity in her German hometown of Bergisch Gladbach. Talk about hitting the right notes for a good cause!

So, when Heidi Klum got the itch to give Corey Hart’s 1984 smash “Sunglasses at Night” her stylish twist, she dialed up none other than her go-to DJ, Tiësto.

Initially released by Canadian singer Corey Hart in 1984, the iconic track marks its 40th anniversary this year. It strutted onto the scene as the lead single from Hart’s debut album, “First Offense,” and reached the impressive No. 7 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

"I was thinking about the moment in the middle of the night at a party when you have been up way too late, your makeup has melted off, you are sweaty and cross-eyed, and all you crave is a pair of sunglasses," Klum shared her inspiration in a press release, revealing that the moment sparked thoughts of "Sunglasses at Night."

Tiësto, the maestro behind the beat for the German supermodel’s rendition of the ’80s classic, expressed his enthusiasm, stating he “loved how the track turned out” and is “super excited for her and this release.” Klum injects the song with pumped-up club energy while retaining the iconic synth riff as the song’s pulsating core. To kick off the video, Klum also playfully instructed, “OK, everyone, get your sunglasses out.”

The revamped edition of “Sunglasses at Night,” released on January 26, doubles as the theme song for the upcoming season of Germany’s Next Topmodel, a German counterpart to America’s Next Top Model. Klum not only assumes the role of executive producer for the reality TV series but also takes center stage as its host and principal judge.

The track epitomizes the ultimate runway anthem, perfect for strutting down catwalks, igniting fashion events, and turning up the heat at parties. It is the go-to anthem for anyone looking to hit the club or dance floor, ready to groove with their sunglasses on even when the night falls.

With this unexpected venture into electronic dance music, the question arises: where is Klum headed next? Now that her name graces streaming platforms alongside one of the genre’s all-time greats, fans can speculate if the path ahead leads to the euphoric embrace of confetti cannons at raves. The future promises to be as unpredictable and diverse as Klum’s own multi-faceted career.
