Boston-based DJ Kastra joined us at the CALPAK Space at our Nexus Lounge in Miami. A seasoned Miami Music Week attendee, the Billboard Dance charting artist shared his top travel tips, talked about his recent experience going viral in Asia, and played a quick game of our signature Nexus Take 5 Series.
Ray Decker, better known as “Kastra,” has swiftly risen to prominence in the EDM scene, garnering accolades from industry heavyweights like Martin Garrix, Tiesto, and Avicii. With releases on esteemed labels such as Armada Music, Spinnin Records, and Ultra Music, Kastra has solidified his position as a formidable force in the industry.
Regarded as ‘one of the most underrated house producers,’ DJ Kastra’s unique blend of infectious beats and melodic undertones continues to captivate audiences worldwide. His Billboard-charting hits, including ‘U & Me’ and a cover of Fergie’s ‘Glamorous,’ highlight his versatility and profound connection with listeners. Signing with Ultra Music in 2020, DJ Kastra unleashed the infectious single ‘Fool For You,’ which soared to number 24 on the US Billboard Dance charts and garnered over 200 million views on TikTok.
DJ Kastra has been on a roll this year, releasing an impressive three singles in the first three months of 2024. His most recent track, ‘Constellations,’ is a euphoric melodic house banger featuring Beatport Charting DJ INViDA and Montagu’s powerful vocals.
Getting into our interview, Kastra tells us that he’s excited to be back in Miami for Miami Music Week, having flown in from Boston the day before. When asked about his top travel tips, the DJ shares that he struggles with sleeping on planes (relatable), though sleeping pills and lounge access have helped make his frequent travel just a little more bearable.
One of Kastra’s 2023 highlights was going viral in the Asian markets with his track “Fool For You,” which allowed him to play in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Speaking on the experience, the DJ shared:
"When we did the Hong Kong show, I was mainstage but I was early and I was like 'I wonder if anybody's going to know who I am. And we went and played and they knew every lyric… It was a surreal moment to see something you made in your studio in Boston travel that far."
