Kelly Clarkson Performs and Dishes on ‘Late Night’

Kelly Clarkson stopped by ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ on Tuesday to perform a stripped-down version of her song “Didn’t I” from her latest album “Meaning of Life.” She also took some time to set and chat with Meyers about what’s going on in her life.

Clarkson and Meyers have had some pretty great on-screen time together in the past, notably a segment in which they spent an afternoon getting drunk together, and this interview reflected the same hilarious back-and-forth. The pop star talked about what it’s like to be on “The Voice,” and how she interacts with her fellow coaches. She says it’s a lot of fun and there’s a lot of great banter, especially because she knows Adam Levine and Blake Shelton so well already. “I do go in on Blake a lot. But he’s kind of a giant target,” Clarkson said. “I’m kind of annoyingly competitive.”

Clarkson also went into a few details about how her family deals with her fame, as well as about her experiences at the Golden Globes.  She met Steve Carrell, who, if you’ll remember, shouted out her name as he got his chest waxed in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.” She said that the comedian is just as nice off-screen as you might think he is – she asked him if that famous shout was a compliment and he and his wife said that they actually were big fans! Carrell was not the only person Clarkson got to meet on the red carpet. Meryl Streep “caressed her face!” Meeting Streep was a little overwhelming, especially because she’d only ever interacted with the cardboard cutout version of the actress that she’d received as a gift. That’s right: Kelly Clarkson has a Meryl Streep cardboard cutout.
