MAJOR LAZER GETS KNOCKED OFF TOP

untitledIt’s happened.

There’s no denying this has been the year of the Diplodocus. Diplo, or Thomas Wesley Pentz, has finally grown to fit his name. His career has blown up to Dinosaur-sized proportions. Everything he touches is gold, and this year was no different. We had “Lean On,” we had Jack U, we had Grammy noms, we had “Where Are U Now,” you’ve heard it. Diplo’s carribean-influenced style, and great production skills have propelled him from being a fan-favorite producer to straight mogul.

We may be seeing the end to Diplo’s Jurassic-sized reign of terror. The Major Lazer track “Lean On” got knocked off of Billboard’s “#1 Dance/Electronic Song” high-horse this week, and by the most unlikely of pairs. And no, it’s not Daft Punk.

The dancehall-smooth anthem has been replaced by The Chainsmokers’ single, “Roses.” That’s right. Diplo’s most notable project yet just got pushed off of the hill by the same guys whose breakthrough single was the parody, “#SELFIE.”

Of course, one musn’t balk. That was one hell of an impressive run for “Lean On.” It held the title for 23 straight Weeks and has also been used for various ad campaigns such as Google Nexus 5x. On top of that, “Roses,” is a good effing song. It’s indicative of the all-encompassing style that’s taking over mainstream EDM.

Ironically, the two parties will be heading SuperCity 50 this year along with Alesso, to kick off this years Super Bowl Celebration. The Festival will be held in Oakland, Cali.
