Steve Aoki,Gerard Way Pair Up For ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ Remix

DJ shared a special 10th anniversary yesterday of emo band My Chemical Romance’s 2006 single “Welcome To the Black Parade,” along with the band’s front-man Gerard Way on the 28th November.

Aoki essentially turns the theatrical, epic pop-rock opera into -ready, buzzing adventure, with synths, drops and drums galore. However, the song’s telltale opening piano notes, as well as Way’s dramatic intro monologue, are still front and center on the remix. The kazoo-like synths, trap-inspired drums and wild bass drops take “Welcome to the Black Parade” from Warped Tour to Electric Daisy in just under four minutes.

Aoki was effusive about the song’s importance in an with Buzzfeed about his remix.
“This is a song that’s not just representing My Chemical Romance, it represents an entire culture,” he said. “This is absolutely one of the most important songs of our generation. I was lucky—honored—to be able to work on it.”

My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way added – “I think it does a really great job of capturing the essence of the song and turning it into new.”

Asked if MCR were planning a reunion, Way had this to say – “I guess what is just really cool, you know, the relationships between the people in the band are really solid. I think everybody misses each other, and we definitely miss playing with each other — but at the same time, everybody is really happy with their lives. And we’re able to recognize that My Chemical Romance was this one period, this moment in time that we’re really proud of.”
