Tritonal: From Online Friends to Dance Music Superstars

Tritonal
Tritonal, formed by Chad Cisneros and David Reed in 2008 in Austin, Texas, is one of the most successful US electronic music duos of the last decade, with nearly 1 billion collective streams across their discography, which includes three artist albums, over 200 originals and remixes, and six Top 10 hits on Billboard’s electronic charts. These two incredibly humble artists met online while discussing sound design and production techniques in 2007 and decided to pursue a career in dance music. They became friends and realized that together they could achieve much greater things. As they would say, they “complete each other’s musical sentences.”
A year later, they began releasing progressive music on labels like Anjunabeats, Fraction Records, and Coldharbour Recordings, often with vocalist Cristina Soto. Their euphoric anthems and passionate live performances rapidly made an impression on the international dance music scene. By 2009, they had remixed tracks by renowned artists like Ferry Corsten and Ronski Speed. The duo’s first mix CD, Enhanced Sessions, Vol. 2 (with a second disc mixed by Ferry Tayle), arrived on Enhanced Recordings in July 2010. In the same year, Tritonal launched a weekly radio show, Air Up There, and a digital imprint, Air Up There Recordings.
One of Tritonal’s first triumphs was their debut album, ‘Piercing the Quiet,’ in May 2011. They showed no signs of slowing down—even after a whirlwind, worldwide tour to promote the album. Eight of its songs charted in the Top 20 of online dance music retailer Beatport’s trance charts, including two that held the #1 position for almost three weeks—’ Lifted’ and the ‘Still With Me’ Club Mix. Their first smash hit, Piercing the Quiet, was voted the best track by thousands of listeners to Armin van Buuren’s ‘A State of Trance’ radio show. It ignited explosive interest within the global trance community and received significant backing from Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten, Stoneface & Terminal, and Gareth Emery.
The three-part ‘Metamorphic’ EP series (2013-2014) marked Tritonal’s development from trance to house, which featured their breakout songs “Now or Never” and “Anchor.” In 2016, they released their second album, ‘Painting With Dreams,’ garnering +140M streams on Spotify alone. Their third album, ‘U & Me,’ features collaborations with Sultan + Shepard, platinum singer-songwriter Mozella, and multi-platinum artist Rachel Platten debuted in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Album Sales chart in June 2019.

ritonal’s fourth and most recent album, a one-hour meditation piece, was published in early 2021. Unique to their existing catalog, Reverence came at the height of the pandemic from more of a calling than anything else to serve their fans and provide art with an introspective purpose.
After only three short years of united production, Tritonal, a progressive trance duo, has become one of the top names to watch in the international electronic dance music market. Tritonal has seen track after track soar up the Beatport charts and land in the sets of some of the world’s most recognized and respected DJs, currently ranking at #83 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs List. Thanks to a fast-growing fan base of loyal Tritonians and a memorable, energetic stage presence, Tritonal continues to shower music lovers with their uplifting, original content and unique remixes of some of the best electronic tracks today.
