Past One Direction member Zayn Malik has just signed to record label RCA, Billboard reports.

The former boy band member has been active on Twitter to express his excitement over the deal and well as to throw a little shade One Direction’s way by using the hashtag #realmusic.

It’s an interesting turn of events given that Malik initially left the band for what seemed like privacy reasons following accusations that he had cheated his longtime girlfriend. Signing to a major label for a new album puts him back in the spotlight, obviously, so it seems that may have been merely any excuse. Obviously no one knows yet what type of “real music” Malik will release or when his first solo album will drop.
It looks like we’ll just have to wait and find out—and in the meantime see what kind of fun things all the Directioners Tweet in response to Malik’s #realmusic.
