We’ve known for a little while that Diplo had been collaborating with Madonna for her new album, but it has only recently been revealed that she had rerecorded the vocals of one of her classic songs as part of this partnership. The new lyrics of her 1987 hit “La Isla Bonita” were teased on Annie Mac’s show Superstar DJs during the episode when she takes the audience behind the scenes of Diplo’s life.
The original lyrics, “Last night I dreamt of San Pedro,” were changed to “Last night I dreamt of Major Lazor,” which was then turned into a dubplate by Diplo. As Your EDM reports, “Annie immediately pulls back the track in disbelief of the nuanced lyrics and Diplo states, ‘That’s why I work with all these big artists. Not to even have hits, just to get dub plates, so I can play them once for Annie Mac.'”
Thus far, Diplo and Madonna have seven songs together, four or five of which they hope actual make it onto the album. Diplo says, “I’ve done about three weeks with her, and we’re gonna do some more projects at the end of July. She’s just really cool.”
