The XX Debuts A Short Film, Night + Day

Following the recent release of their long-awaited album and their recent eight night residency at Brixton Academy in London, The xx has released their debut short film entitled Night + Day. The short film is a 21-minute documentary that features interview clips, as well as the footage of their live shows, festival involvements, and radio tour and film screenings. According to Romy Croft, one of the members, the band wanted to explore further than only live shows, and the idea just came up naturally.

The mini-documentary begins with an aerial shot of the district of Brixton, accompanied by the intro music of the first single from their new album, On Hold. Directed by Tayo Rapoport and Josh Renaut, this film is created “to connect with and celebrate all of the amazing cultural activity happening in the places” in Brixton, according to the band themselves.

Appearing in the film are also the UK’s very own Florence + The Machine, as well as Sampha, an electronic and soul music producer who will be one of the two opening acts for the band’s North American tour throughout 2017.

The xx’s new album I See You is the band’s third album, and was released on January 13, 2017, after their self-titled album and Coexist. The album incorporates their original sounds, but this time they jump into more experiments, as shown by the a lot of Jamie xx’s sample. The band will kick off their North American tour at Coachella 2017.
