“AVICII FOREVER”: A New Chapter in the Legacy of a Dance Music Icon

A wave of emotions swept through the electronic music world today as Pophouse Entertainment and the Avicii Estate announced the upcoming release of AVICII FOREVER, a 19-track posthumous album honoring the life and legacy of the late Tim Bergling, known globally as Avicii. The album is scheduled for release on May 16 via Interscope Records and Pophouse.

Described as a blend of “essential tracks” from Avicii’s iconic back catalogue alongside newly unearthed material, AVICII FOREVER is poised to reignite the pulse of fans around the world—some of whom have eagerly awaited more music, and others who approach the release with a heavy heart and deep respect.

Leading the announcement is a new single, Let’s Ride Away, featuring powerhouse vocals from US singer-songwriter Elle King. The track aims to bridge the past and present, showcasing Avicii’s timeless production paired with modern collaborators.

Yet, the album’s unveiling doesn’t come without controversy. In February, Swedish singer and longtime Avicii collaborator Sandro Cavazza publicly expressed discomfort with the posthumous handling of their unreleased material—specifically Forever Yours (Tim’s 2016 Ibiza Version). Cavazza, who contributed vocals to the track, stated he had not agreed to its release as a single.

“Tim is the only one who knew when his songs were finished,” Cavazza wrote in a heartfelt statement online. “I have for years now been asked by the family and Pinguettes recordings to release the unreleased material I have done together with Tim and I have consistently said no.”

His comments echo a broader conversation in the music industry about the ethics of posthumous releases—especially for artists like Avicii, whose perfectionism and vision were central to his sound. Cavazza’s stance is a reminder of the delicate balance between celebrating a legacy and respecting an artist’s original intent.

Despite the tensions, AVICII FOREVER stands as a significant cultural moment. It not only introduces unheard melodies to the world but also invites fans to reflect on Avicii’s transformative influence in electronic music—from festival anthems like Wake Me Up to introspective cuts like The Nights.

Whether embraced with open arms or met with critical reflection, AVICII FOREVER underscores one truth: Avicii’s music, and the emotions it stirred, will indeed live on—forever.
