Amsterdam Dance Event is celebrating its 30th anniversary with one of its most ambitious art projects yet. This October, Dutch artist Boris Acket will transform Amsterdam’s De Centrale Markthal with EINDER, a massive installation combining movement, light, sound and live performance. Created by Acket and Making Waves, the project will run from October 21 through November 1, 2026, bringing together visual art, electronic music, classical performance and choreography under one constantly shifting canvas.
At the center of EINDER is an approximately 80-by-25-meter textile installation suspended inside De Centrale Markthal. A series of fans will continuously push and pull the material through the space, allowing it to change shape as light and sound interact with its movement. Rather than creating something visitors simply stand back and observe, Acket has designed EINDER as an environment audiences physically experience and become part of.
“With EINDER, we wanted to create a work that people can experience with more than just their eyes,” Acket explains. “By bringing movement, light and sound together, the installation creates an environment in which visitors become part of the work itself.”
That idea is deeply connected to Acket’s roots in club culture. The artist, who has previously collaborated with the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Van Gogh Museum, Lowlands and Fred again.., has long explored the relationship between sound, visuals and physical space. He compares EINDER’s unpredictability to the experience of a club, where music, visuals and people can temporarily come together to create something that cannot be completely planned.
For ADE Managing Director Jan-Willem van de Ven, Acket’s evolution from creating visual work within club culture to leading a project of this scale also reflects ADE’s own growth over the past three decades. “For ADE’s 30-year anniversary, we have been reflecting on what culture is,” he says, adding that ADE increasingly sees its role as not only reflecting the cultural landscape but helping shape what comes next.
The installation will serve as the backdrop for an eclectic series of live performances beginning October 21, when the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra performs Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony beneath EINDER. On October 22, Amsterdam artist and DJ Elias Mazian will take the stage with his live band, followed by pianist and composer Joep Beving on October 29, performing music from his new album Liminal.
EINDER arrives as ADE celebrates three decades of electronic music culture while continuing to push beyond the traditional boundaries of the festival and conference. By bringing Beethoven, electronic composition, contemporary dance and immersive visual art together inside one enormous installation, the project offers a glimpse at how ADE’s next chapter could extend far beyond the club.
EINDER runs October 21 through November 1, 2026 at De Centrale Markthal in Amsterdam. Pre-registration for the concerts runs through August 24, followed by pre-sale beginning August 25 and general sales on August 27. Seated concert tickets start at €27, excluding service fees.
