Joining us at the Technics Space, in the Nexus Lounge, Amsterdam edition, we spoke with Brieanna Grace about her ADE experience, upcoming projects, and process as a vocal producer.
If you’re looking for a dance artist with strong pop routes, then Brianna Grace has got you covered. A multi-talented musical powerhouse, Brieanna Grace isn’t just an excellent artist but also a first-class vocal producer, having even worked with major brands for film and TV like Marvel and Disney. Her work has been featured in Loki and High School Musical, and artists are queuing up to work with her.
Speaking fondly about this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event, Brieanna Grace noted how nice it was to talk face-to-face with many of her collaborators and other artists with whom she shares labels. She often works remotely as an LA artist with many links to the European music scene, so getting that in-person experience was really valuable to her.
When discussing her work, Brieanna Grace notes that many decisions are built around a strong gut instinct.
"Whenever DJs or producers send me a few records, I'll know within the first five seconds whether or not I want to work on it and it will just automatically flow. It'll automatically come out… producers will send a [vocal] reference and I never listen to the reference. I can't stand it because I get locked in instead of doing what comes naturally to me."
Brieanna Grace also mentions how different this is from the pop music culture, where she says things are often far more structured than with dance. She much prefers the culture of dance, where people have far more freedom to run on instinct.
"You can tell when someone has thought way too hard about a song."
Of course, we’re always eager to know about an artist’s upcoming projects, and it sounds like Brieanna Grace has some exciting stuff in the works. From a collaboration with Nilsix – the duo made up of Orjan Nilsen and Mark Sixma – on Black Hole recordings to releases Anjuna, Insomniac, and a handful of other dance labels. Here’s one artist who’s always got something in the works.
"When I have something to say, what I want to say will come out first and then the melodies will just kind of follow."
