It’s Tuesday, and we’re taking a break from our Amsterdam Dance Event prep to bring you another edition of our weekly new music recap, Fresh Finds!
Each week on Fresh Finds, @lenskymusic breaks down the latest releases in the dance music space—it’s a bit of a weekly tradition, and we’re hoping you’ve been enjoying these as much as we’re enjoying writing them.
Now, let’s get into our favorite tracks and albums from the last week.
• ALBUM: JOPLYN – SILVERLAKE 03
Who is JOPLYN, and why should you be streaming her newest record, SILVERLAKE 03?
A mainstay of the Berlin scene, JOPLYN combines euphoria and ambiance with techno to create a sound that is entirely her own. Her latest album, SILVERLAKE 03, is singular in its approach to dance music—a dazzling, sensual, intimate exploration of this multifaceted genre that centers on diverse arrangements and excellent songwriting.
There’s no dull moment across the album’s 10 tracks, whose titles are fittingly stylized in all caps to match the forceful, driving energy of JOPLYN’s music. There are intimate moments for sure—“DISBECOME” and “JIMMY” among them—but overall, SILVERLAKE 03, with its inspired beats and club readiness, is a definitive artistic statement from this young and exciting rising talent.
• TRACK: James Hype, Kim Petras – “Drums”
Fresh off the release of two albums—Feed The Beast and Problématique—Kim Petras partners with beat-maker extraordinaire James Hype on “Drums,” a rhythmic club track that features the pop star’s soaring vocals and immense house builds. It’s the kind of track that just goes and is a strong addition to both artists’ already excellent discographies.
• TRACK: Kenya Grace – “Only In My Mind”
A follow-up to her breakthrough #1 single “Strangers,” “Only In My Mind” is the exciting second single from UK artist Kenya Grace’s (unannounced but hotly anticipated) debut album. The track, featuring Kenya’s beautifully soft vocals and enchanting lyrics, is drum-n-bass perfection and an instant addition to my sad club playlist.
• TRACK: Anabel Englund – “a lesson in chemistry”
Here at Nexus Radio, we’re big fans of Anabel Englund, and with good reason—the California-based singer and producer rarely misses, and her newest release via Ultra Music is no exception. Featuring an excellent hook and an addictive house beat, “a lesson in chemistry” exceeds every expectation I have of this hit-maker.
• TRACK: The Martinez Brothers, Tommy Genesis – “PFW (Paris Fashion Week)”
Paris Fashion Week might be over, but the energy continues with this release from The Martinez Brothers and Tommy Genesis. Sultry and underscored by a bass-heavy techno house beat, “PFW” is the perfect add to your dance playlist (and won’t leave you checking your clothes for bed bugs).
• TRACK: Nicole Moudaber – “Reasons To Love You”
It’s always an exciting week when Lebanese-British producer Nicole Moudaber adds to her already superlative techno discography with a new track. “Reasons To Love You” is in line with the rest of her exciting music—true to techno and ready for the dance floor. Check out the Extended Mix for the ultimate taste of this new track!
