Let’s face it…. in the big scheme of things opening at your local EDM Festival is childs play when you look at what EDM producers composers Junkie XL and Hans Zimmer are doing.
Junkie XL, whose real name is Tom Holkenborg was born in the Netherlands in 1967, he started playing instruments at age 12 and never looked back. Like Hans Zimmer, who’s more known (and respected) for his blockbuster film musical productions and of course, Tomorrowland’s theme song, Holkenborg has been composing for big budget films, games and of course music for well over a decade now. However not a lot of people know about it.
In the dance music world, we know Junkie XL for his unique style in remixes for the likes of Sarah Mclaughlan, Depeche Mode, The Scissor Sisters, Michael Buble and Britney Spears. But in Hollywood, Junkie XL and Hans Zimmer are a force of nature that are quietly taking over. Here is a list of hit films that Junkie XL has credits with:
2002 – Resident Evil
2004 – Chronicals Of Riddick
2011 – Kung Fu Panda 2
2012 – Madagascar 3
2012 – The Dark Knight Rises (along with Zimmer)
2013 – Man Of Steel
2014 – 300: The Rise Of An Empire
2014 – Divergent
2015 – Mad Max: Fury Road
2016 – Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice (along with Zimmer)
Junkie XL’s musical credits also include notable games such as Dance Dance Revolution, FIFA, The Sims 3 and commercial campaings for Nike, Cadillac, Nordstroms, Adidas, Visa and more. With a portfolio like this, it’s hard to even call Junkie XL and Zimmer EDM producers. They are amazing and talented composers, and they will continue to lead the pack in Hollywood.
Junkie XL is currently promoting his works for Mad Max starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Zoe Kravitz, daughter of Musician Lenny Kravitz and TV Actress Lisa Bonet.
