We caught up with DJ Meetch in the Technics Space at Nexus Lounge Amsterdam during last month’s Amsterdam Dance Event. Easily recognized behind the booth by his Minecraft-inspired robot mask, DJ Meetch talked us through his first time playing an ADE event, shared the story behind his legendary get-up, and participated in our rapid-fire Q&A series, Nexus Take 5.
A recent LA transplant, Meetch’s come-up is a story fit for the big screen. Having sustained life-threatening injuries in a car accident while in high school that left him partially deaf and suffering from memory loss, Meetch discovered his passion and talent for dance music while in recovery. Today, the DJ is a frequently called-upon performer on the LA dance music circuit, regularly playing for huge audiences locally and internationally.
With an increasingly recognizable sound that dances between tech house, hip hop, and bass house, Meetch has built his organic fanbase through legendary sets at Pacha, Stage 48, and the Kahbang Festival. DJ Meetch’s most recent release, “Take It Slow,” marked the artist’s first foray into more a vocal-forward track. Complete with an addictive hook, irresistible beat, and crisp production, Meetch’s new music is a must-add to any party playlist.
etting into our interview, DJ Meetch shares that while this is his second time attending the legendary Amsterdam Dance Event, it was his first time performing at an official ADE show: “A lot of people come to party, but I mainly come to network and play.”
Having played with some of the industry’s biggest legends like Skrillex and Deorro, we were curious to know who Meetch’s dream B2B partner would be. After some deliberation, the artist tells us it’d probably be French DJ and songwriter Madeon—a dream combo if there ever was one.
Before he heads out for a stacked night of sets across Amsterdam, Meetch plays a quick round of Nexus Take 5, the segment where we ask our guests a series of rapid-fire questions that range from funny to just plain odd.
What’s DJ Meetch’s go-to karaoke song? “Guns and Roses’ ‘Sweet Child of Mine’”. And who would be his celebrity crush? “If I had to choose… probably Selena Gomez”. His last binge-watched show? “Monsters¸ that show about the Menendez murders… Do I sound like a psycho?” Don’t worry, Meetch—we’re right there with you.
