The secret to creating the next #1 music track? Grab some drum loops and auto-tune your vocals — voila, you’re famous! Well — sort of, but this week, for the sake of entertainment, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone decided to ignore 99% of the process and instead create a parody based on the 1% of track design (okay, to be fair, maybe it’s a lot more than 1%).

In this episode of South Park, Randy creates a hit track by recording himself singing on his phone, importing the audio onto his laptop, adding some loops, and finally adding auto-tune. The end result makes Stan fall to the floor as he’s mesmerized by the beautiful sound of Randy’s new track. Now for those that have dabbled in audio design, surely you get the joke — because sometimes tracks really are created entirely from loops without any further modifications, and even in under 30 minutes. But as far as that auto-tune plugin Randy is using — will that be released anytime soon?
