Artem Stolyarov is a Russian DJ and producer born in 1989. He produces unbelievable progressive house and trances under the moniker ARTY. ARTY started his musical journey at just eight when his grandmother enrolled him in music school. It didn’t take long for him to achieve academic success there, and he had graduated by 14. At this point, ARTY had reached a fork in his life. He could either go to musical college, become a professional pianist, or seek a more creative path. He chose the latter when he downloaded the popular music-making software FL Studio and fell in love with it. His experience with video games made FL Studio come to him very naturally, and he began to make dance music under the influence of The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy.
However, it was not until ARTY graduated from university that he began to take music seriously. With a more serious approach, ARTY created his debut release ‘Inside of Me’ and then his debut EP Vanilla Sky. The label Enhanced Music agreed to release this work in 2009. His atmospheric brand of progressive house soon attracted the attention of labels and DJs worldwide.
This industry attention soon resulted in a growing audience with a bit of help from Above and Beyond and their label Anjunabeats. The duo began to play ARTY’s singles ‘Rush’ and ‘The Wonder’ on their DJ sets and radio show. ARTY solidified this momentum by releasing ‘Trio’ alongside the producers Matisse & Sadko in 2011. This release showed the world that ARTY was capable of making more gritty and hard-hitting sounds.
2011 also saw ARTY’s first success in live performing. The progressive house DJ performed at the party for the anniversary of Armin van Buuren’s radio show: A State of Trance. ARTY showed off his progressive house on the main stage alongside Markus Schulz, Above & Beyond, and Armin van Buuren. ARTY’s set was well received and led to further bookings at Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrowland, and Creamfields for years to come.
In 2015, ARTY signed to a major label for the first time. In addition, he became the first Russian to be signed to the Insomniac label. Their relationship led to the release of ARTY’s debut album Glorious. The progressive house album aimed to be alternative with influences from the French house scene. The album rose to number 14 on the US dance charts.
2016 brought a shift away from ARTY’s usual progressive house. ‘Bloodfire’ was a much heavier bass house track that ushered in a new era of experimentation for ARTY. In 2017, he brought back his alternative moniker, Alpha 9. This trance project aimed to reconnect ARTY with his old fans.
Although ARTY loves to create music for his fans, he also loves to keep up with the latest trends in electronic music. His progressive house album From Russia With Love did just this. It was a hard-hitting album featuring collaborations with up-and-coming dance producers who are the future of dance music. But stylistically, it is a varied album with house, trance, and rave styles from the past and the present.
In 2019, ARTY earned a well-deserved success on the US market when his track ‘Save Me Tonight’ went to number 1 on the US dance charts. It is a progressive house banger making some retro production for the glimmering chords that elevate the track. The track was made famous by its music video, directed by Noah Centineo, which depicted two friends taking revenge on school bullies.
ARTY continues to work on new releases. From progressive house to rave, to tropical house, who knows what his next music will sound like. Find out by following his feed or listening to Nexus Radio.
