“There’s a thing called love that we all forget, and it’s a wasted love that we all regret. You live your life just once, so don’t forget about a thing called love.” Above and Beyond spreads the Love in Chicago at Navy Pier’s historic Grand Ballroom. Built in part of the original construction of the pier, in 1916 this ballroom has hosted some of the most influential speakers and parties Chicago has ever hosted. This concert was a culmination for all of the love that Above and Beyond has shared with us for close to 15 years. Since the late summer of 1999, Above and Beyond has brought the best in trance from their own label Anjunabeats to Chicago. Above and beyond has always cared for Chicago like Jan Brady cares for her family. They have played in Chicago for over a decade and they will continue to spread the love for years as they did last night at Navy Pier.

Right when we first arrived you could just feel the positive energy that everyone gave out like some sort of bio-magnetic field. I felt like a “king for a day,” when we emerged into this huge ballroom. Lane 8, was on the decks playing some chill trance. The bars were poppin’ and the place was packed full of people that represented the greatest years of late 90’s, to early 2000’s EDM. The venue exceeded our expectations with its architectural design, however left us in awe that they had zero seating available. The ballroom hosts 80 foot ceilings with iron tresses holding it all together like a spider web. The stage boasted A huge LED screen…BOOM! Before their set time, the LED panel in the back displays, ‘WE ARE ALL WE NEED,” fog fills the air, and the crowd goes wild for the arrival of Above and Beyond. They take the stage and play all of their hit songs such as, “Sun and Moon,” “Black Room Boy,” “Thing Called Love,” “We’re All We Need,” and “Blue Sky Action.” The music and the lights were all perfect for the size of the room, even though we wished they would have used some of their lasers as they have in previous venues on this tour. We felt the warmth from Above and Beyond on this special day where no matter if you are single, married, or just on a great date, you helped spread the love in the greatest city in the world, Chicago.
