Depeche Mode’s Memento Mori Era Comes to Netflix in Powerful New Concert Documentary

Netflix has officially secured the streaming rights to Depeche Mode: M, a feature-length concert documentary that captures one of the most emotionally resonant chapters in the legendary band’s career. Following a limited theatrical run in late October and a physical release in early December, the film is set to premiere on Netflix in the United States on January 9, 2026.

Directed by acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías (I’m No Longer Here), Depeche Mode: M transcends the boundaries of a traditional concert film. The documentary chronicles Depeche Mode’s three sold-out performances at Foro Sol in Mexico City during their 2023 Memento Mori world tour, where the band played to more than 200,000 fans across three nights. Rather than simply documenting the spectacle, Frías weaves together performance, place, and emotion to create a deeply human portrait of the band and their audience.

According to the official synopsis, Depeche Mode: M explores the group’s global cultural impact while examining the profound intersection of music, mortality, and Mexican tradition. The film frames these themes as a sacred meeting point where grief, memory, celebration, and movement merge—an especially fitting lens given the spiritual and cultural weight of Mexico City as the setting for these performances.

Eighteen songs are featured throughout the film, including iconic tracks such as “Personal Jesus” and “Enjoy the Silence.” The documentary also stands as a poignant tribute to founding member Andy Fletcher, whose passing in 2022 cast a long shadow over the Memento Mori album and tour. His absence is felt throughout the film, adding depth and vulnerability to performances that already carry decades of legacy.

Frontman Dave Gahan praised Frías’ approach, noting that the film captures something far deeper than a live show. “At its core, our new film M is about the deep connection between music, culture, and people,” Gahan said. “Fernando Frías did a beautiful job telling that story through the lens of Mexican culture and our shows in Mexico City.”

Depeche Mode: M arrives on Netflix US on Friday, January 9, offering fans and newcomers alike a chance to experience the band’s enduring power, emotional honesty, and timeless connection with their global audience.
