Carly Lind: Thriving in Chaos and Crafting Stories Through Music

In a lively and heartfelt conversation at the Nexus Lounge, Los Angeles–based artist Carly Lind sat down with Aron from Nexus Radio to talk creativity, spontaneity, and the power of storytelling through sound. Experiencing Amsterdam for the first time, Carly Lind described the city with a sense of wonder—like a “really cute town” straight out of a fairytale—an energy that mirrored her open, adventurous approach to music and life.

Carly Lind’s journey has been defined by bold collaborations and unexpected moments. One standout milestone she shared was her recent collaboration with Mexican DJ Lumina, where they reimagined the iconic “Castles in the Sky.” The project earned support from the original DJ and quickly made waves within the electronic music community, marking a significant step forward in Carly Lind’s evolving career.

That sense of unpredictability is something Carly Lind embraces wholeheartedly. She recalled an impromptu performance that came together at the last minute thanks to her friend Lux during a café celebration in Amsterdam. Rather than feeling overwhelmed, Carly Lind thrives in these moments of chaos, explaining that spontaneity fuels her creativity and keeps her fully present in the experience.

During the interview’s “Take Five” segment, Carly Lind opened up about her songwriting philosophy, which is deeply rooted in storytelling. Drawing from her studies at the Berklee College of Music, she shared her desire to write beyond traditional love narratives, instead exploring broader emotional landscapes and real-life moments. Her songs aim to feel lived-in—honest reflections of human experience.

Carly Lind also spoke about maintaining creativity by cultivating a sense of childlike wonder. Her studio space is filled with colorful figurines and simple joys that keep her imagination active. Outside the studio, she stays inspired by attending live shows, listening deeply, and observing the everyday stories unfolding around her

When asked which song she’d use to explain music to aliens, Carly Lind chose “Crying in Public,” a pop-country fusion born from collaboration and live performance. The choice reflected her belief that music is ultimately about shared emotion and collective expression. She also discussed blending formal music education with a DIY electronic ethos, often collaborating with her husband to record real instruments before transitioning into electronic production—an approach inspired by acts like RÜFÜS DU SOL, whom she admires for their live instrumentation.

As the conversation wrapped up, Carly Lind reflected on music’s ability to unite people. For her, concerts are more than performances—they’re moments where differences disappear, and collective energy takes over. With optimism and determination, Carly Lind continues to embrace uncertainty, ready to carve her own path on the global stage.  Listen to the full interview below.
