The music world is mourning the reported loss of Oliver Tree, the chart-topping singer, songwriter, producer, and cultural phenomenon known for his distinctive style, offbeat humor, and genre-defying music. According to reports from authorities in Brazil, Oliver Tree Nickell died on Sunday morning following a tragic helicopter collision in Rio de Janeiro. He was 32 years old.
The accident occurred over Recreio dos Bandeirantes, a coastal neighborhood in Rio’s southwest zone, when two helicopters reportedly collided mid-air before crashing into a parking lot below. Local officials stated that all six people aboard the aircraft were killed, with no survivors.
The impact caused significant damage on the ground, destroying approximately 20 vehicles and sparking a fire that sent thick smoke across the surrounding area. Emergency responders quickly secured the scene while firefighters worked to contain the blaze and clear debris.
Brazilian authorities identified several of the victims, including Lucas Vignale, Lucas Brito Chaves, and Argentine content creator Gaspar Prim, better known to millions online as Gaspi. The two pilots involved in the incident, Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac, also lost their lives.
Among those who lost their lives was Lucas Brito Chaves, widely known as Lucas Frota. Frota was familiar to many within the electronic music community, having previously appeared on a Nexus Radio panel discussion at the Abbey Road Institute in Miami. His participation reflected his passion for music, media, and emerging creative talent, making his loss especially felt among colleagues and friends across both the entertainment and digital content industries.
The Brazilian Air Force confirmed that investigators from the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents have been dispatched to examine the crash site. Officials say the investigation remains in its early stages as specialists work to determine exactly what caused the collision.
Oliver Tree was in Brazil as part of a major international tour. Just days before the accident, he performed in São Paulo on June 6 and was preparing to launch the European leg of his tour in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 13.
Over the course of his career, Oliver Tree built a reputation as one of modern music’s most unconventional and creative artists. Blending elements of alternative rock, electronic music, pop, and hip-hop, he developed a loyal global following through both his music and his larger-than-life personality. His viral videos, memorable performances, and unique artistic vision helped make him one of the most recognizable figures in contemporary music.
Fans around the world have taken to social media to share tributes and memories, celebrating the impact he had on music and internet culture alike. While investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, many are reflecting on the creativity, humor, and individuality that defined his career.
Our thoughts are with Oliver Tree’s family, friends, collaborators, and fans, as well as the loved ones of all those who lost their lives in this tragic accident.
