ADELE RECEIVES HONOR FROM POP LEGEND

adele-new-songs-2014“Hello” has become ubiquitous in the music world inspiring covers from everyone to Rick Ross, and now in one of the most flattering and honorable nods of the year, Celine Dion.

Adele’s album 25 has blown 2015 out of the water. The English singer’s soulful rendition of heartbreak, nostalgia, and growth has found a niche in the hearts of listeners across the globe. According to Billboard:

“…the ascent of “Hello” on Adult Pop Songs is historic: its five-week rise to the summit is the fastest in the chart’s nearly 20-year archives, besting the six-week sprints of Swift’s “Shake It Off” (2014) and Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me” (1996).”

The irony of the above reference to the legendary diva, Celine Dion, is not lost on this author. Dion has gained a place as one of the most notable female powerhouses of the past 30 years. For her to cover your song is like receiving an embossed letter telling you that you have arrived, welcome to the club.

If Madonna’s 2003 MTV kiss with Britney was her way of “passing the torch” onto the younger Popstar, I can’t see how Celine Dion covering Adele’s acclaimed “Hello,” is anything but. She performed the ballad live at Caeser’s Palace in Las Vegas this weekend, her own elegant New Years kiss to the talented woman.
