Jess Glynne has recently been subject to some attention from the media for her sexuality. Many news posts have been throwing labels on the British singer in the past, but also since she did an interview with Fabulous. However, she prefers to go without labels. It’s no secret that she has dated women before. In fact, her debut album, released in 2015, called “I Cry When I Laugh,” was inspired by a difficult break-up from her girlfriend of three years.
While talking about her sexuality, she says “I mean, for me, it’s not even a thing. I just get on with it and I am what I am and I just don’t think it’s a big thing.” She goes on to say that her friends and family have never given her a hard time about her sexuality. She definitely has a very relaxed and healthy attitude towards her sexuality: “I think the more you make of something, the more it becomes a thing, and these days, people don’t really care. I don’t see why they should care.”
And they shouldn’t. Good for you knowing that, Jess.
However, the media has been starting rumors about her and one of her back-up singers, Holly Petrie, who were seen dancing and supposedly kissing at the Brit Awards’ after-party. These rumors upset Jess because, as she says, “I’m quite a private person and I’ve always been that way, so I don’t think [fame] will ever be normal.”
Jess shoots these rumors down, most likely rolling her eyes with her London edgy attitude, saying, “That’s the thing I kinda hate…Holly Petrie is my backing singer. That’s all she is. Like, me and my band have a great relationship and we all get wild when we wanna get wild, and we’ll all dance with each other and all have fun, and that’s as far as it goes.”
But, she goes on to make a more important point: “Because I’m dancing with a girl and I’ve said I was in a relationship with a girl before any girl I’m seen with now is going to be my new ‘love interest’. But really my business is my business.” She’s right; it’s that kind of thinking that is incredibly damaging for people (just because a woman likes women doesn’t mean that every woman she knows she is attracted to). Jess goes on to explain how she is happily single for the moment, and that if she were in a relationship, she wouldn’t hide that.
But, other than the media’s intrusion into her privacy and sexuality, she is doing well, working on her new album. In reference to her new album, she goes on to say, “I’m so inspired at the moment with so many things that I’ve experienced over the past two years that I’ve got loads to write about.”
