Gorillaz Are Back In Action

Gorillaz is back in the studio for their fifth studio album after having not made any new music since their Plastic Beach album in 2010. Of course, one could count The Fall as their last album which came out later that same year, however it was an interactive album for iPad and supposedly it didn’t end up working too well.

In October of last year, Jamie Hewlett of the English duo (well, the human side anyway) announced that, ‘2016 is going to be Gorillaz all year,’ and have finally proved it with solid evidence on Instagram. First he posted a video showing Jean Michel-Jarre, Liam Bailey, and Twilite Tone working in the studio with Hewlett and his Gorillaz partner Damon Albarn. Unfortunately, the video is soundless which leaves us wondering. After that, Hewlett posted another video in the studio of Twilite and Bailey goofing around with lyrics.

Additionally, Hewlett has also been posting to his Instagram new images of the actual (animated) band members: 2D, Noodle, Russel Hobbs, and Murdoc Niccals. Additionally, last week Hewlett also posted “a sneak preview of a stop motion, paper cutout 2D puppet of Gorillaz singer 2-D we’re working on for a secret project” in honor of Albarn’s birthday.

Back in Octotober, Hewlet also talked to DIY saying that, “I’m working on [the new album] at the moment, and it’s going very well. I’m very excited. I don’t want to say too much about it, but I’m at that phase of experimentation.” In terms of the animation, he also comments that, “of course, it’s going to be different. I can’t do what I’ve already done, that’s not interesting to me. It’s going to be a different look,” and judging by the images that he has released, it does seem to be different. Then again, nearly everything that Gorillaz does tends to vary greatly and be incredibly unique, which means that we are really looking forward to this new album, especially after such a long break.
