British DJ, producer, and TV personality, Joel Corry, caught up with us at the Nexus Radio Lounge at the K-Swiss Pop Up at ADE Amsterdam last year to talk about his latest projects, his ADE experience, and to take our Take 5 quiz.
Joel Corry came to musical prominence in 2019 with the release of his single “Sorry,” which featured vocals from Haley May. The single reached number 6 on the UK singles chart. This year, Corry released two more singles, “Lonely” and “Head & Heart,” both of which were instant hits, with “Head & Heart” staying at number 1 on the UK singles chart for six weeks.
While he was in the studio with us, Joel told us that although he’s visited ADE as a raver before, his 2019 appearance was his first as a performer
On what inspires him when he writes music, he said:
“Oh god, that’s so good. I think, I’ve come from a DJ background. I’ve been DJing since I was young. So, I’ve always, whenever I write music, the first thing in my mind is, “does it work in a club?” I’m always club-focused, so I think I’m inspired, to be honest with you, by nightlife, by club DJing, and by that moment being in the club where I see the crowd going off.”
When asked what he would change if he could start again, Joel told us:
“If I could start again, I’d probably get rid of some of the dodgy haircuts I’ve had. Cuz some of them pictures are haunting me, I’ve had a few dodgy trims.”
On how he handles jet lag, Joel said:
“Um, you know what? I don’t have a problem with missing sleep. I love touring, so over the years I’ve just adapted to the no sleep thing, so I don’t get effected by it. I really don’t. I go into like ‘robot mode.’ In the summer I did like 85 shows, and over 120 flights, in four months. It was like two flights a day, so I just like go past that point.”
