The Duality of Lachi: The Singer-Songwriter Meets us at ADE

We were joined by Lachi in our Mooi pop-up studio at our Nexus Lounge in Amsterdam during ADE. The singer-songwriter told us about her ADE experience, her latest work, and she took part in our Take-5 Series.

Lachi is a singer-songwriter and producer from New York City, creating high-energy pop and EDM. The singer-songwriter has gained respect for her work in improving inclusion for people with disabilities. Lachi began this work after finding EDM hard to break into for blind people like herself. She first published music in 2011, but ‘Time Heals’ was a guitar ballad and she did not make EDM until her 2015 track ‘Boss’

Lachi had been working on a song called ‘Duality’. On her reason for the title she told us. “So life is a series of ups and downs… I am the type of person where I am really upbeat, but also I get down. I am really scatterbrained, but sometimes I am super organised. I feel like so many people can relate to there being so many different things about a person but they are still the same person. It makes you love someone but you hate them.”

The singer-songwriter was also teasing her new single ‘Easy Pass’, a driving EDM track about the confusion of modern dating. The track is a collaboration with the Swedish producer Klave. The singer-songwriter treats us to her goddess like voice with interesting phrase repetitions that still manage to be easy listening.

Lachi was having an excellent ADE when we spoke to her, despite the huge travel from New York. She had been at some parties, and bumped into everyone she was having meetings with at the Armada Party. For Lachi, ADE had just been one big party.

We asked Lachi which unconventional musical artist he would want to collaborate with. She told us that she really looks up to Sia, because she is such an unusual character but she creates relatable tracks.

The singer-songwriter also took part in our Take-5 Series, we asked what her superpower would be. Lachi chose to be able to hear what animals are saying. The singer-songwriter was quick to explain she did not mean in the “Doolittle” way, but because animals are so in tune with themselves. Lachi wonders how they follow their purpose so closely. If she could choose one animal to hear, it would be a butterfly, because they just seem so happy.

Lachi continues to take her upbeat and high-energy vocals and songwriting to the world of EDM. Be sure to keep up with her social media for her latest releases. If you want to hear our whole interview with Lachi, please head over to the Nexus Radio website.
