Mark Sixma joined us at the BPM Supreme pop-up studio at the Nexus Lounge in Miami. He took part in our Take-5 question series, gave us insight into how he prepares for his sets and gave us the lowdown on what’s next for him.
When asked about how the talented DJ prepares for performances, Mark explained that he would review all of the songs he plans to play, looking for tracks in the same key that will make for a good mashup. He prepares his sets so they can be either short or long and always wants to know who is playing before and after him to make sure that he picks tracks that will be a good fit. The art of DJing is more than meets the eye!
“Without music; life wouldn’t make much sense.”
While Mark Sixma is undoubtedly navigating a fantastic career, it hasn’t always been easy. When asked about the worst professional decision he has ever made, he didn’t hesitate to recount impulsively signing a record deal without reading the fine print. Although he didn’t specify the specific issue of the contract, he regrets the decision and learns from it. “Nobody is wise from birth, you know; you get wise from making mistakes.”
