From Piano to Perfection with Luca Testa- A Nexus Radio Interview

This year’s Ultra Festival saw a fantastic turnout from artists and musicians alike, and that’s how we got the chance to speak with Italian EDM star Luca Testa in the Sonarworks popup studio at the Nexus Lounge Miami.

Born in Turin, Italy, music has taken Luca Testa worldwide, bringing his dance-worthy tracks to the international charts. He began as a talented young pianist, and now, with two sound engineering diplomas under his belt, he’s hitting the scene with all the skills of a seasoned pro.

This year marked Testa’s first set at Ultra Music Festival, but it was far from his first time in Miami. After years of coming to Music Week as both an artist and a fan, he was finally excited to hit the big stage. “I have a special set prepared,” said Testa. “I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.”

But Ultra Music Festival wasn’t the only thing Testa had to be excited about. Having spent years putting out music and working his way through the industry, Testa is now opening his studio and recording label in Italy. The label is called meritocracy and, according to Testa, has already signed some prominent artists.

It’s been a big couple of years for Luca Testa, and with all that recognition comes a fair amount of praise:

“When I see young guys, DJs, and some producers, follow me and ask me for photos, that’s one of the best compliments I can get because, I mean, nobody since three years ago asked me for photos. So, I mean, I’m just doing what I like, and when people ask me for photos and ask me for advice, this makes me very happy.”

A lot of work goes into making music, and, in some ways, every artist has their approach and their unique process. For Testa, one of the essential elements of making a hit song is getting some distance. He says that when he comes back to a song a day or two later, it sounds different to him. It just shows you that you can never underappreciate the value of a fresh set of ears.
