Joplyn joined us, from her hometown of Berlin, for a virtual interview in the SoundID Reference pop-up studio at Nexus Lounge Miami. She shared her recent experience of traveling to entertainment hotspots in LA and NYC to gather feedback for her upcoming album and the value of the universal language that is music in a world full of miscommunication.
Joplyn has many titles; singer, songwriter; producer; poet, and independent artist. She first started writing poetry at just 6 or 7 years old, learning to play the piano soon after to animate the poems she had written. Later, she took up production, beginning with Garageband, as many artists do, and evolving from there. She has released more than two dozen singles and showcased them on some of Spotify’s top playlists, such as New Music Friday, Indie Radar, and Electronic Rising.
This up-and-coming creative has been working on an album she’s thinking will drop in August 2022. She’s currently devoting a lot of her time to the project’s creative direction, bringing the album’s visual aspects to life. And her life has been one destination after the other: LA, NYC, Berlin, and London, as she’s been sharing the album across the entertainment world and gathering feedback from peers and professionals alike.
After just one conversation with Joplyn, it’s obvious to see how connected she feels to music, both the music she creates and consumes and the music she has nothing to do with. When asked about the importance of music, she stated:
"For me specifically, [music is] important because it's always been there with me; through the tough times, through the good times… I've always been processing life through poetry and then later songwriting… To the world, it's important just because it's one of the only universal languages we have… I think getting down to that [almost] primitive level of communication and empathy and understanding is crucial for us all together."
She says the world would be very creative and also sleep-deprived if it were made up of only her clones. And shared with us her irrational fear of slugs, plus the converse desire to overcome that fear at some point in her life. So what would an artistic but sleepy and slug-loving world look like?
