Grammy-Nominated Kah-Lo Surpassed 1 Million Streams with Latest Single

New York-based producer Kah-Lo called into the Nexus Studio Lounge for a Take 5 interview. She shared the context for her newest single, “Drag Me Out,” which spoke about what it’s like to be Grammy-nominated and revealed her hidden talent and fear.

Nigerian-born and currently New York-based, Faridah Seriki is known in the industry as Kah-Lo. She is an aspiring journalist turned Grammy-nominated producer with an emerging name in the public sphere. Her long-standing creative partnership with industry peer Riton has been a driving force in her rise to recognition, having put out a string of successful records together, including their joint 2018 album “Foreign Ororo.”

Her latest single ‘Drag Me Out’ is, as she describes, a responsibly reckless anthem. It depicts a perfect party night, made perfectly useless by its uninterested party guests; the feeling of being the only one in the club enjoying the night through to the morning. It is her fastest single to surpass 1 million streams on Spotify, hitting the figure less than two months after its release. When writing this, the record is coming up on 2 million streams.

Among her other recent releases is The Arrival EP, created and released with the label Epic Records, whom she chose to sign with despite having many different options, saying, “They were the right fit.”
In our interview, she touched on what she misses most about her hometown of Lagos, listing her loved ones, the weather, and the culture. She reports being able to get home frequently, with her last visit being two months before our call, but no amount of getting home can overcome feeling homesick or beat her hidden fear of flying.

She also shared her hidden talent for sewing with us, saying, “I can fully construct a garment, but a lot of it lately has been alterations, especially for shows…I want everything to be in the right place, and I alter it to fit myself.” So, the secret’s officially out—Kah-Lo is a producer by day and a fashion designer by night!
