It’s hard not to love the music of Andrew Bayer. Over the last decade, his incredible multi-genre DJ’s work has taken off across the EDM world, and here at Nexus Radio, we’ve loved every second of it. Now he’s got another album coming up, and we were lucky enough to get the chance to sit and chat about all the amazing stuff he’s got coming up.
Duality
Duality is Bayer’s upcoming double album set for release via Anjunabeats.
According to Bayer, the album stemmed from a desire to encapsulate the two different musical worlds he’s worked in. Combining both his “downtempo” and “club-centric” styles, Bayer says the album will also bring in many LGBTQ+ collaborators and themes.
“We started weaving this really amazing list of very personal stories… The album took on this new meaning once I started bringing in these fabulously queer and incredible human beings. We just realized that even though we all had a very, very different background, we had this commonality. Part of that is a sense of duality when you are also figuring out how to present yourself to society in the way that you feel; the most authentic.”
How He Started Making Music
Some musicians start with the piano. Others prefer the guitar or vocals. Andrew Bayer might be the only professional musician in the world whose career began on a PlayStation. It all began with a PlayStation One game called MTV Music. The game allowed players to sequence music samples, putting together their own arrangements.
“It had this Euro Dance looking sequencer,” says Bayer. “I cut my teeth on this PlayStation controller making musical blob arrangements, and then I was like, ‘maybe I need to start writing my musical blobs.’”
What’s Coming Up This Year?
Bayer says he plans to spend the next month or two setting up the studio before moving into the remainder of his tour. He has a second disc of club music to work on for the album and says he’s looking forward to getting some “fresh ears” on it. After that, he’ll move on to travel dates and plans to be in London on September 10th and 11th for the ABGT Weekender at the Dockyards.
A Thank You To The Fans
Before going, Andrew threw in a big thank you to all his fans for following him. “I know I’m a fairly difficult artist to follow because I don’t do a lot of social media. I’m trying to get a little bit better at that. A lot of my fans are just so wonderful.”
