More Than A Museum

The first thing all visitors should know about Our House is that it’s far from your typical museum. While this museum has exhibits, it’s as much about the experience as the education. With its many interactive elements and use of technology, the museum presents the story of a genre in a deeply memorable and engaging way.

Education And Expertise

That’s not to say education takes a back seat. Quite the contrary, in fact, the museum offers the chance for up-and-coming creatives to take courses and masterclasses, refining their skills and helping them to pursue their creative dreams.

And it’s not just in-person courses either. Those looking to learn more about the world of dance and the production process can now take online courses designed by industry experts to help them develop their skills and find real job opportunities.

What Can Visitors Expect?

In just over an hour, the museum will take you through dance music’s long and fascinating history. With content organized and curated by a large and diverse team of international experts, the display aims to show the width and breadth of the genre. In the words of Lotte Anna Lebens (brand and content director for Our House), “There is not one true story about the history of house music because everyone has their own story to tell and their own identity.”

The Our House exhibits have also been designed and built with five prominent names: Kevin Saunderson, Carl Cox, Armin van Buuren, Diplo, and Charlotte de Witte. As you explore this exhibit, you’ll have the chance to see the genre’s history through the lens of the artists who continue to shape it.

Perhaps most importantly, the exhibit examines some of the most critical moments in the genre’s development, such as the origins of Chicago house and how party capitals like Ibiza took center stage in the growing scene.

Why Projects Like This Matter

Here at Nexus, we believe that projects like this one are so important both for preserving the history of the genre and for helping new artists find their voice and understand where their music came from. Not only does the Our House museum show the legacy of some of the most amazing artists of the last forty years, but it also provides an invaluable source of context for the music being made today.
