We sat down with German DJ Thomas Gold at the Philips Space at our Nexus Lounge Miami. Straight off a flight from London, the trance and tech-house legend shared the story behind the making of his recent collaboration with Chester Young and Jordan Grace before playing a quick game of our Nexus Take 5 Series.
Thomas Gold, a true pioneer in the electronic dance music scene, is renowned for his innovative productions and captivating performances.
Originating from Berlin, Germany, Gold’s love affair with music ignited at a tender age, driven by his fascination with electronic sounds and rhythms. His unwavering dedication and exceptional talent swiftly captured the attention of industry insiders, catapulting him into the limelight as one of the most thrilling artists to emerge from the electronic music capital.
Over the course of his illustrious career spanning more than two decades, Thomas Gold has amassed an awe-inspiring array of achievements. From headlining prestigious festivals across the globe to crafting his own unique sound, he has consistently pushed the boundaries of dance music, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
Most recently, Thomas released “Make A Way” in collaboration with bass house aficionado Chester Young and vocalist Jordan Grace. Getting into our interview, Thomas shared a little bit of back story about how this track came to be:
“I’ve known Chester and Jordan for a while, and Chester came up with the idea of doing the track together… And I liked the combination of Jordan’s voice and the hard, heavy-hitting baseline, but I told him I would add more contrast… So, I took the whole track and dissected it and reworked it, and they actually loved it.”
In addition to creating this banger track, Thomas has been busy this year navigating the switch from Logic to Ableton. He’s one of several producers at the Nexus Lounge who’ve shared about switching DAWs, and Thomas tells us that the process is all about overcoming your own obstacles. “It’s been really cool,” he tells us, adding, “I love Ableton and the plugins. I love the stuff you can do with it. I get a different sound out of it.”
Before he heads out, Thomas plays a quick game of our Nexus Take 5 Series, in which we ask our guests a series of rapid-fire questions that range from funny to just plain odd. After sharing some of his early electronic influences, Thomas tells us his favorite movie soundtrack and talks about a recent venture into consulting that’s helped him get back to his MBA roots.
