American duo Disco Fries joined us at the Level Awards booth during the Nexus Lounge Miami. They gave tips on connecting with fellow artists, shared how they help upcoming talents get a start, and participated in our Take 5 series!
Disco Fries has made waves in the club scene and mainstream music. Starting as college roommates, Nick Ditri and Danny Boselovic have always pushed boundaries, blending classical melodies with their trademark basslines. Their innovative sound has earned them praise from industry heavyweights like Tiesto, Hardwell, Afrojack, Steve Aoki, and R3hab, among others.
Danny and Nick’s bond sprouted in 2007, blossoming into a journey that’s seen them transition from musicians to industry guides and mentors. Despite being in different states—Danny in Virginia and Nick in New Jersey—their geographical split has only strengthened them, letting them split tasks and triumph over challenges together.
Their strategy? Cultivate a partnership that prioritizes checks and balances, leveraging each other’s strengths and compensating for their individual weaknesses. “Two very different personalities but it works, and we always advise artists to be in a duo of some sort because without each other, this doesn’t work,” the two chimed in.
In 2013, Disco Fries hit significant milestones, starting with their inclusion as one of VIBE Magazine’s “30 DJs to Watch in 2013.”Their momentum surged when they dropped “Lose It,” premiered by Tiesto at Electric Zoo in NYC. This led to a fruitful partnership, resulting in their first collaboration, “iTrance,”released in October to celebrate Tiesto’s DJ Mag & KLM DJ Legend Award. The track garnered acclaim, with support from Above & Beyond and a warm reception from fans. Riding this wave, they released “Philtrum” on Tiesto’s Musical Freedom, solidifying their status as daring producers unafraid to test their limits.
Beyond creating their own music, Disco Fries has been sharing their musical wisdom with emerging talents through their Twitch streams, featuring a segment called “Finish My Track.”Here, they highlight audience submissions, offering constructive feedback to help artists complete their works and, more importantly, offering a platform for hidden talents to shine. Their Twitch presence has fostered a genuine community, leading to the signings of some artists from the series to their label, Liftoff Recordings.
Juggling multiple music ventures has allowed them to broaden their impact beyond their own creations. They also host weekly live streams diving into production techniques and the music industry’s ins and outs while critiquing songs in-depth through their “Dope or Nope” segment.
Disco Fries’ passion for empowering others shines through in all their works and roles. They value the enduring connections forged with artists through their endeavors.
"There's a different dynamic, a new group of new artists that are coming up that we're excited about. I think I'm just popping around to parties and hearing new stuff. Every year, we hear something, like a new sound or a new record, that we're psyched about. So I think that's what it's all about for us."
During our Miami Music Week interview, Disco Fries revealed an exciting new collaboration with Australian singer-songwriter Vassy, remixing her track “Supreme.” Building on their history of chart-topping hits like “Pieces” and “Concrete Heart,” Disco Fries seamlessly blend their house music mastery with Vassy’s dynamic songwriting. In an Instagram post, they described infusing this remix with a “Miami special sauce” inspired by Cuban sandwiches and ropa vieja. If that doesn’t make you hungry for some Disco Fries tunes, I don’t know what will!
