JOPLYN’s Youth Won’t Stop Her From Taking the Music World by Storm

THE 10 Qs SERIES

JOPLYN is a 21-year-old electronic music sensation known for her unique melodic techno sound, which fuses the best of 2000s electro, house, and eclectic electronica. She’s a true DIY artist, writing and producing all her own tracks and only performing her original music live.

Born and raised in Berlin, JOPLYN grew up in a city synonymous with electronic music. Berlin’s rich musical landscape, with its underground clubs and techno heritage, played a significant role in shaping her artistic vision.

Despite her young age, JOPLYN has already teamed up with and been remixed by some of the biggest names in the electronic scene, including Booka Shade, Damian Lazarus, MK, and Jan Blomqvist. Her tracks have been released on top labels like Blaufield Music, Watergate Records, and Crosstown Rebels.

JOPLYN is often referred to as “the singing techno DJ from Berlin with the two dots,” but her influence extends far beyond the decks. As the German ambassador for Spotify’s EQUAL campaign, she’s been spotlighted on a Times Square billboard and has led workshops and keynotes for big names like Ableton, Beatport, and Spotify.

As a brand ambassador for Berlin’s tech giant ABLETON, JOPLYN played a key role in launching their new PUSH 3 product in late 2023. Her third album, “SILVERLAKE 03,” dropped at the end of that year and was largely recorded in Los Angeles, reflecting her global influence. She’s currently working on her next album, continuing to develop her unique “JOPLYN sound”—a high-energy, emotional mix of melodic techno, house, and electronica that’s sure to light up dance floors.

“The main upcoming thing is the release of my song “Wasser” (“Water” in German) on my own independent label None Of The Above Berlin. It feels like a new chapter and a bit of a manifestation of my sonic identity. I’m super excited about it,” the young artist shared on the release of the song on August 16.

When asked about a memorable moment she had from one of her live performances, JOPLYN shared a recent one connected to the song “Wasser.” “Basically at every show I play it where people understand German, they hand me bottles and bottles of water from the crowd and it’s the most fun thing. A couple days ago in Ibiza I was so hot that I poured it all over me while I was performing the song.”

JOPLYN’s live shows are a dynamic mix of singing, synths, and live jamming. She aims to forge a deep connection with her audience by telling powerful stories through her music.

Q: Before we dig in, what's next for you?

So the main upcoming thing is the release of my song “Wasser” (“Water” in German) on my own independent label None Of The Above Berlin. It feels like a new chapter and a bit of a manifestation of my sonic identity. I’m super excited about it. Then there’s lots of remixes, singles after that! And I’m finally back on the road touring around the globe – so catch me at one of my shows! They are where it’s truly at.

Q: Tell us about a memorable moment from one of your live performances.

A recent one is connected to the song “Wasser”. Basically at every show I play it where people understand German, they hand me bottles and bottles of water from the crowd and it’s the most fun thing. A couple days ago in Ibiza I was so hot that I poured it all over me while I was performing the song.

Q: How does music impact your life?

It impacts every fibre of my life. My work, my free time, my sleep (I write a lot of my songs/lyrics through my dreams). So basically 24 hours a day! Crazy if you think about it.

Q: What's the most embarrassing song on your playlist?

I hate music snobbery, so I’m just going to say I have some very problematic artists’ music on there that I would love to hate but simply cannot.

Q: What's the most ridiculous music video you've ever seen?

Gangnam Style was such a cultural moment!

Q: What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Cinnamon!

Q: If you could solve one global problem overnight, what would it be?

The climate crisis.

Q: If you had a time machine and could visit any historical period, where and when would you go?

Depends who I am in this scenario. If I get to choose everything I think I would want to live in Ancient China as a member of the Tang dynasty during their rule, maybe around the year 800. Super random but I’ve always wondered what life would have been like for the elite back then.

Q: What movies have inspired you?

Sadly I am not a huge movie person. I wish I could get deeper into it at some point. I really liked “Victoria” because I could relate to a lot of it (not the bank robbery stuff of course but the rest of it). “Parasite” I’ve watched a million times. As well as “Inception”. I wish I had some cool indie tip, sorry!

Q: Describe your most bizarre life experience thus far?

The one that immediately came to mind I legitimately signed an NDA for, so a story for when I’m old and most of it forgotten.
I would say Coachella was pretty crazy. But bizarre – I think we all have those experiences that make us question reality a bit. Weird coincidences too absurd to be true. Without wanting to sound esoteric; but ways life creeps up on you. Stuff like that. When I was younger, maybe 15, I was in Paris with my friend, we were both entirely sober, and a train station we were looking for disappeared for a couple hours. We asked the guard if he knew where it was and he said it hadn’t been around since the 50s when we showed him photos. Came back the next day and there it was. That was pretty absurd.
