10 Questions with European Sensation Tungevaag

THE TAKE 5 SERIES

Tungevaag

We sat down with Martin Tungevaag for a chat on favorite smells, festivals, and the essentials to a good track.

Martin Tungevaag, known professionally as just Tungevaag, is a Norwegian producer who’s released hit songs with Spinnin’, Armada, Ultra, Warner, and Sony. Last year he made his debut on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs, coming in at number 92.

Tungevaag is best known for his single “Play,” a collaboration with fellow Norwegian artists Alan Walker and K-391 which boasts over 130 million streams on Spotify. It is a remake of Mangoo’s “Eurodancer.” The song peaked at number two in the artists’ home country and made an appearance on several other charts across Europe.

His continental success begins early on in his career: in 2014 when the then 21-year-old Tungevaag released “Wicked Wonderland,” his debut single with the first record label he signed onto, Kontor Records in Germany. It would be the first of many major hits in his discography. “Wicked Wonderland” certified platinum in Germany, Switzerland  Austria, and Spain, quadruple platinum in Norway, and triple platinum in Sweden and Finland.

Flash forward to 2021 and the artist is still pumping out hits with no visible end in sight. Earlier this year, he released “Young Summer,” a song meant to rouse feelings of nostalgia in all those who miss “the gold summer days.” His single “Ride with Me” featuring American rapper Kid Ink is set to release on June 4th.

To learn more about Martin Tungevaag, including his answer to why we listen to music, check out our interview with the artist below:

Q: Before we dig in, what's next for you? (current or future projects)

My next release June 4th featuring a big artist.

Q: What is the one thing every track must have for it to be solid?

A good kick. It’s so annoying to hear tracks that have bad kicks.

Q: Let's create a new festival; What would you name it, Where would it be located, and Who would be the top 3 headliners?

Tungeworld Festival at Jan Mayen island (Norway). Headliners Afrojack, Fetty Wap and Kid Ink.

Q: What is music going to sound like 20 years from now?

Every track will be maximum 1.5 minutes long cause people have even less patience than today.

Q: Why do we listen to music?

Because it’s as important as food.

Q: If you could bring one artist back to life, who would it be? (Why that artist?)

Mozart. Cause I want to hear what he think about today’s music.

Q: What's your favorite smell?

Food: Indian, Thai, Japanese.

Q: What can you talk about for hours?

Airplanes and how to book the best flights. I’m a flight nerd and trying to learn as much as possible about it.

Q: Which historical figure would you like to be?

Elvis, cause I can’t dance.

Q: (Pick One) Game of Thrones, South Park, Walking Dead, or Stranger Things?

Is it embarrassing to say I have not seen anyone? I don’t watch a lot of movies.
