10 Questions With “For You” DJ Rozell

THE TAKE 5 SERIES

The LA-based DJ Rozell joined us to talk about what’s next for him, his personal opinion on the meaning of music, and more!

DJ Rozell is an up-and-coming producer and an Estonian-born DJ who’s forging a name for himself with a blend of thumping new compositions and energetic DJ sets. The guy can move and perform on stage with his vocalists, displaying his outstanding dance talents while completing intricate choreography. You can see he feels the song and that it travels through him as he dances along with the music.

Rozell’s last three singles, “Critical,” “Fever,” and “No One Knows My Face,” all reached the top five of the UK Music Week chart. The song “No One Knows My Face” achieved the best results in December 2021, placing 2nd on the UK Music Week Club Chart Commercial Pop and 3rd on the UpFront Club Chart.

“For You” is the follow-up to Rozell’s hit “No One Knows My Face” with Sebastian Peréz and Sir Jeremy Green. The song was co-written and featured vocals by famed composer Nico Stadi, who has created hits for popular artists such as Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, Jason Derulo, and Kylie Jenner, among others. DJ Rozell claims he wrote this song with Nico Stadi last year while he was on his knees and found himself struggling solely because of his decisions. “Right now, I’m exploring myself, recovering from my ankle injury, and producing a lot these days. I have some cool ideas you’ll see soon,” said the DJ.

Since his spectacular UK arena tour in March 2022, where he opened for The Wanted, Rozell has promised new music, and “For You” is a gift to all his new fans. The crowds in all 12 arenas were on the edge of their seats throughout Rozell’s set, where he introduced the new track, and “For You” is now available for streaming.

Q: Before we dig in, what's next for you? (Please talk about current projects here+)

My latest single “For You” was released this summer, which I wrote together with super talented Nico Stadi. Right now I’m currently exploring myself, recovering from my ankle injury (spending a lot of time at the gym to get to the best shape I could possibly get, so I would be able to perform again). Also producing a lot these days, I have some cool ideas which you’re gonna see soon.

Q: What does music mean to you?

Music to be honest means everything to me, it is just the way I function. Music has been something really important to me throughout my life and it’s just something that keeps me going and what brings me joy or tears if needed.

Q: Is there a song that makes you emotional?

“Let It Be” – The Beatles.  It is just one of these songs that defines so many beautiful moments for me. Plus of course Avicii’s tracks make me very emotional at times.

Q: What makes a track a hit?

I think a hit song is something that gives you goosebumps or makes you feel like no other track. Catchy melodies, fresh sounds etc. Hit songs are something that resonates with millions of people.

Q: Which musical era would you visit if you could travel back in time?

I love disco music and I would love to go back to disco parties when they didn’t have social media etc. Just pure joy of disco and the dance floor was full of people who didn’t care about anything else but the rhythm 🙂

Q: Who was your role model while growing up?

My dad and he still is. I adore him so much. He’s smart, he knows how to balance things, he’s super talented and he and my mum gave me the best life and raised me well, at least I feel like I had the best childhood.

Q: What makes you feel unstoppable?

My goals make me feel unstoppable, life in general. The fact that we all have that potential to concur everything we want is just unstoppably the coolest thing on earth. Mostly I experience my unstoppable mode on the stage or whenever I’m working out. Cuz I really like to push boundaries and to just go all in with these things.

Q: What would be on the gag reel of your life?

I have too many funny moments/memories. Once I got hit with a bowling ball and I got 3 stitches just because we wanted to throw 3 balls at the same time. One time we were performing in Malaga, Spain. I don’t exactly know how it happened, but at one point my drummer jumped into the crowd and started making out with a girl who was in front of the stage, and I just didn’t want the crowd to stop dancing as hard as they were dancing before, so I jumped behind the drums and kept on playing til my drummer got back on stage 😀

Q: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop?

I have no idea what is tootsie roll pop to be honest 😀

Q: Would you travel to space? (if yes, which planet if no, then why not)?

I would love to experience space. I don’t necessarily want to visit a certain planet, but I would love to just travel around the universe, I would like to go as far as possible and just to see what are the things that exist in the universe. Because to be honest, we don’t really know much about space.
