5 Questions with “Anywhere” DJs Lucas and Steve

Still buzzing from his first ADE party, Lucas of the Dutch DJ Duo, Lucas & Steve, joined us virtually at the ROOF at theWit during Nexus Lounge Virtual for a chat. He talks about his ADE experience, latest projects and takes part in our Take-5 series!

Lucas & Steve, a Dutch powerhouse pair, have had a meteoric ascent to fame in recent years. Lucas de Wert and Steven Jansen began collaborating in 2010. They joined Spinnin’ Records, a well-known Dutch EDM label, in 2014 and released a few singles on the Spinnin’ Deep sub-label. They broke into the top 100 DJ Mag charts in 2017, and their music continues to thrive.
When asked why music is essential, Lucas strongly believes it’s a powerful tool to uplift people’s feelings. “Music is important because it moves people. It can lift people’s moods and spirits at times that they need the most. So it’s a potent tool for that, to brighten people’s days. And that’s our mission when we make music. We want to transfer [the] euphoric feeling to people”, the DJ mentioned.

Known for their upbeat productions, their summer hits ‘Summer On You,’ ‘Up Till Dawn,’ and ‘Where Have You Gone’ have scored the audience’s hearts. With superb live sets at Tomorrowland’s Mainstage, Creamfields, AMF, WorldClubDome, Parookaville, Summerburst, Sziget Festival, ElectroBeach, and tours across Europe, Asia, and South America, they’ve demonstrated that their boundless energy is at its best in a crowd.
The time has finally come after many sold-out editions and a one-year hiatus! Lucas & Steve has returned to the Q-Factory for their legendary ADE club night. “We had our first ADE party yesterday, and we’re doing shows of our own, our events this week for the first time during ADE. And from those supporters, we had the first one yesterday, and it was just incredible; what a crowd we had. Everybody went just crazy to all of our songs, our new songs.. So, yeah, still buzzing, a little bit hangover, but I’m recovering.”, Lucas amusingly said.
The duo has released a new EDM song with Tiesto titled ‘Oohla oohla.’ And even though they have experienced challenges in composition, this has been a dream come true for them. Lucas hinted that there would be another collaboration but did not mention with whom. Instead, he teased it’s going to be a pretty commercial one but still really groovy.
The lighthearted DJ enthusiastically answered our Take5 questions and had us all inspired when asked what the world would be like if his clones run it. “World peace. It will be used anywhere and everywhere. We’ve made sure that the government installed some excellent quality speakers around the street. Different moods and different times in the city.”
