Amidst this electric atmosphere, Italian-American DJ and producer Rob Cappadonna sat down with Nexus Radio during the Nexus Lounge Miami, for a conversation filled with laughter, reflection, and shared passion.
“How are you?” Racquel began, setting the tone for a relaxed and candid interview. Rob smiled, expressing his joy at being part of such a unique event. “It’s Miami Music Week. I’m always excited to meet people from all over the world and see friends that I only get to see once a year. It’s always a good experience.”

Rob’s journey into the pulsating world of DJing started in his native Italy, where the music scene offered limited freedom in genre selection. “Growing up in Italy, we did not have the freedom of picking between different genres,” Rob recalled. He began with drum and bass before transitioning to house music, a shift that eventually brought him to the vibrant music scene of Miami.
As they discussed Rob’s upcoming projects for 2025, opportunity seemed to stretch out infinitely. Rob is focusing on music production with a series of thrilling collaborations that promise to “enlarge the family” of artists he works with, seeking bookings overseas to share his sonic signature beyond U.S. borders.
Amid serious discussions of creativity and ambition, the conversation took a whimsical turn. When asked how he would explain a sandwich to aliens, Rob quipped, “It’s probably one of the most delicious things they’ll ever try, especially if they get it from the south of Italy where I’m from.” A moment later, he revealed his playful side as he imagined himself a ghost who would spend the afterlife pranking people.
But humor gave way to poignancy as Rob shared a life-altering perspective shift prompted by personal loss. “Before, I was more focused on long-term goals and more cliché goals. Now I’m more like, I’m gonna do what I want when I want,” he confided, embracing the philosophy of living life to its fullest without regret.
Throughout their exchange, Rob’s authenticity and warmth shone through, not only in his words but in his approach to music creation as well. “I start with a groove and a baseline,” he explained of his creative process. What begins as one thing could naturally evolve into something unexpected, capturing the essence of discovery and innovation.
As the conversation drew to a close, Rob expressed the legacy he hoped to leave in music: “I would like people to remember me and my tracks for being fun, and for those who know me to have good memories of who I am and the things that I did.”
