Joining us at the Nexus Lounge, Miami we spoke with Afrojack about his latest track, how he maintains good health, and his advice for building a music career that works for you.
For EDM fans in 2025, Afrojack needs no introduction. He’s everywhere, from major festivals like Tomorrowland and Ultra Miami to all the dance music charts, Afrojack is well known for making music that’s always on the cutting edge of the genre.

When discussing his latest track – “Never Forget You” – he noted that many people have talked about it as a return to the golden age with its big chord progression and emotional vocals, provided by the outstanding Paige Cave.
Although he suggested that the track’s departure from recent techno-heavy trends might be a bit much for some people, it’s also clear that reconnecting with this style of music meant a lot to him. In his own words: “Personally, I love it when a song can put a tear in your eye.”
It should probably come as no surprise that Afrojack has been feeling a little nostalgic for those earlier days of his career. After all, with over a decade having passed since the release of his debut album “Forget The World”, he’s had a lot of time to reflect, both in his creative output and his professional goals.
Looking back, he describes that time as a high point in his career but doesn’t seem too eager to step back into those shoes.
It’s a fun trip but it’s all fake. My album was very real but then the promotion that happened with it and the opportunities it gave me - it’s a business. That’s the real music industry and I’m very lucky I get to experience that but I’m honestly very happy just being back into the culture, doing what I love which is dance music. Pure dance music with dance music people.”
On the business of music, he was also keen to stress the importance of looking out for your own finances – a subject that is covered extensively in his Wall Pro Academy, a practical course on the realities of working in the music industry. One particular point he was keen to stress was the importance of a financial education.
“Your manager is never gonna explain to you how that works because the more you learn about how time and money work, the less you’re going to invest in your career and the more time you’re gonna invest in your future.”
On a more personal note, he also stressed the importance of not caring how other people see you.
“If you’re ever worried about looking silly and this being a reason for not doing something, even if you do look silly, it doesn’t matter. These people see you for one second, they have an opinion of you for two seconds, and you never see them again. So follow you, think you, and - if you do that right - you can thank you.”
