It’s the end of an era. Avicii will perform his last scheduled show the coming weekend, officially his retirement from touring.
While many may envisage the life of a touring musician to be that of a glorified jet-setter, the reality is far from idyllic. Back in March Avicii announced he would retire from live shows and touring after 2016, stating that he “needed to make the change that I’d been struggling with for a while.” Citing health reasons for his early retirement, the Swedish producer claimed the scene was not meant for him, though he vowed to continue producing music.
In a letter to his fans, Avicii had said – “I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist.”
Avicii will perform at the place he’s called home for the past five years, Ushuaïa Ibiza, where he has been the resident DJ. Avicii confirmed the news via Facebook, writing: “Thank you all my amazing fans for this Sunday’s show. This upcoming weekend is the last chance to see ‘the hand’ doing it’s thing.”
In what might seem like hope, Avicii has stated that though Sunday marks his final scheduled appearance for an indefinite period, he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of future performances: “I can’t say I’m never going to have a show again”.
