Above & Beyond‘s ‘push the button’ is testament to both EDM’s popularity and the trasformative power of the EDM trio’s music. It become a tradition of sorts at every Above & Beyond show for someone to “push the button” during a moment of particular emotional significance. What it entails is bringing on stage a lucky fan to trigger an epic portion of a song and watch the crowd go berserk in rapturous excitement.
Fans come with intricate, hand-painted signs and flags—and make the daunting trek from the back of the crowd to the front of the stage—in hopes of being handpicked to come on stage and drop the beat in front of tens of thousands of their fellow ravers. But at this year’s EDC Las Vegas, the festival crowds did not stand a chance against an unlikely set of guests who would ultimately take on the button pushing responsibility for the EDM trio.
Above & Beyond pre-selected a young fan’s grandparents to “push the button” at EDC Vegas following a moving message. Read the fan’s message below, and watch the video here.
“I am currently going to attend Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas with my brother and grandparents, and I’ll keep this short and sweet. My grandmother turns 75 years old Friday, June 17th, and my grandpa will be 84 years old during the time as well. I’m trying to give them the best experience that they can have while they are there at EDC, and would love for my grandparents to push the button. We have to keep the edm scene going for as long as we can and this would really help to prove that the age difference has no affect in a place like EDC, and everyone loves everyone.”
